The Boite (bwaht) Singers’ Festival – held in the gorgeous town of Daylesford, Victoria – will be marking it’s 20th year in 2010. This 3-day festival is a combination of workshops and performance held annually on the second weekend in January, this year falling on the 7th to the 10th.
The Friday workshop held from 10am to 4:30pm at the Daylesford town hall, is devoted entirely to flamenco music and will be conducted by Nasrine Rahmani and Diego Guerrero covering Traditions, Forms, Palmas, Compas and more.
Nasrine has a long history with drumming and percussion, having played with Afro-Brazilian band Tumbarumba, The Cat Empire, San Lazaro, OzomatliAlex Loyd and Richard Franklin. Music you can dance to, seems to be a common theme for this Melbourne trained musician and it is no surprise that her percussive progression lead her to Cuba, Spain, the cajon and the flamenco genre. Moving to Spain in 2008, Nasrine has since accompanied some prominent flamenco figures, such as; Blanca Li (baile), Andres Marin (baile), Carmen Linares (cante), and Encarnita Anillo (cante).
Andalusian born and heavily influenced by both western Jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms, Diego Guerrero is an accomplished Flamenco Guitarist, Singer, Arranger, Composer and Conductor of the worlds only Flamenco Big Band! A true innovator of Spanish Music.
Diego’s list of credits also include; musical director and arranger of the Flamenco Small Band, musical director for Juan de Juan (international touring flamenco dancer) latest production, and a long list of collaborations with major artists such as, Jerry Gonzalez, Diego el Cigala, Rubem Dantes, Jorge Pardo, Caramelo de Cuba and Rafael de Utrera.
