Martinez Trio

Martinez TrioThe Martinez Trio are a high energy guitar trio with a modern jazz / flamenco sound. But this is one of those musical groups that is definitely creating their own sound if not, their own genre. It’s playful, percussive and tightly rehearsed. You’ll here influences ranging from classical to Carlos Santana but everything keeps coming back to this endearing interplay between 3 very talented guitarists.

Although they are performing a special concert tonight at the Parade Playhouse in Sydney (Sat 27th Mar 2010) most of our visitors will be reading this after the event. The Martinez trio will also support the Gipsy Kings at the Enmore Theatre (Sydney) on the 4th and 5th of April 2010 and they are no strangers to the festival circuit in Australia, playing at the Byron Bay Blues Festival April 1st and 2nd. For current tour dates visit the Martinez Trio website.

What’s important about this trio is the presence of real hard-earned talent combined with an genuine connection between the musicians. Father and composer Victor Martinez and his sons, Andro and Dauno where all born in Chile and have just returned home to Australia from a tour in Japan.

“I am a greatly inspired by the vocal percussion of Dauno Martinez, his voice becomes and extra instrument, a series of muted flamenco jaleo grunts – more at home in funk – are perfectly placed and timed without being over-used.”

Dauno Martinez plays cajon… except there is no cajon in this line-up, just 3 guitars and a whole lot of energy and adventure… Highly recommended and I believe they have a new album coming out this year (2010).
