Hey! Hey! It’s Palomitas Lunes.
Welcome back to our regular night of flamenco movies, documentaries and video clips.
Tonight we travel abroad and step off the boat at Gijón on the north coast of Spain, then we travel about 30kms south to La Felguera in the municipality of Langreo, Asturias.
The DanzAsturias Dance Academy trains more than a hundred children, with a total enrollment of around 140 students , a teaching staff of seven and regular lectures by professionals in the world of dance.
The dance academy places a strong importance on ballet and Spanish dance but the curriculum also includes flamenco, ballroom dancing, break dance, capoeira, funk, hip-hop, batuka (think Zumba) and oriental dance.
So lets start by looking at a DanzAsturias performance that blends hip-hop/breakdance with flamenco. In fact the first clip is so good we have almost worn it out!.
The world of flamenco is changing as it travels across the worlds stages and this first example of flamenco fusion by DanzAsturias is great ambassador for what is yet to come.
