Video Night: Flamenco Beatles

Hey! Hey! It’s Palomitas Lunes.

Hola! from Pablo Flamenco

Welcome to our regular video night at the Flamenco Australia Magazine.

With the Antonio Vargas Workshops about to hit Australia, I thought we’d dig really deep into the archives and hunt down that historical moment when the world renowned flamenco maestro, Antonio Vargas performed The Beatles song ‘She Loves You’ on a 50-minute special guest TV special called “The Music of Lennon & McCartney” in 1965.

Now everyone loves the Beatles

So rather than just show you the excerpt of Antonio Vargas, I thought you would like to see the whole 50-minute show  That way, when Antonio’s flamenco interpretation of a classic Beatles song appears, you’ll be pleasantly surprised and well entertained along the way, with the other fantastic guest appearances ranging from Peter Sellers to Henry Mancini.

Antonio Vargas BeatlesOf course Antonio now has a long list of dance, musical, choreography and acting credits to his name. But it’s his skill as a flamenco teacher that will become his legacy. Over the years Antonio has developed a unique system for teaching flamenco, he has created his own system of flamenco notation and currently teaches from his own flamenco syllabus at a performing arts academy in Singapore as well as his own school and performance group.

In June 2010 he returns to Australian soil to conduct workshops in dance, compas and cajon.

Enjoy “The Music of Lennon & McCartney” as part of this weeks video night and enjoy the distinctive clean lines of Antonio Vargas.
