Australian Flamenco: Our first guest writer, Florian, showcased the intimate flamenco scene in Adelaide including an excellent video from the 2009 Studio Flamenco Fiesta.

Dilution and Duende: Sydney flamenco guitarist Will Henderson gave us a three part essay on Duende in the modern and global age .

Whats On In March 2010?

This is trial ‘Gig Guide’ for flamenco in Australia. We can’t list everything here, so please leave us a comment (below) if you would like to see this expanded into a full video gig guide for everything flamenco around Australia each month.

• Across Australia: The Al Di Meola Tour includes two special guitar clinics for Melbourne and Sydney.The Gipsy Kings tour Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne.

• In Adelaide: A flamenco dancers interpretation of Carmen at the Fringe Festival, Tapas at Hindley have live flamenco every Friday Night, Ojos De Brujo play Womadelaide, and Jessica Statham is guest teaching at Studio Flamenco.
• In Melbourne: ‘La Rumba‘ play regular gigs every Thursday to Sunday, The Melbourne Latin Festival starts March 19, Ojos De Brujo play Hamer Hall, and Melbourne Flamenco presents ‘Introduction to Flamenco Dance‘.
• In Sydney: Ojos De Brujo play Sydney Opera House and the latest greatest Spanish restaurant ‘El Toro Loco‘ now has live flamenco the first Friday of every Month.

• Overseas: Many Australians are soaking up the last few days of Festival de Jerez. Check the site throughout March for Highlights.
• Olympics: If you missed it? Here is the flamenco ice skating routine that saw Canada steal some attention from the controversial Russians (aka indigenous Australia interpretation) and go on to win Gold.
