SPAIN: Sara Baras Awarded the National Flamenco Award

he winners of los premios Nacionales de Flamenco have been announced with the section for dance awarded to Sara Baras.These national prizes are awarded by the Cátedra de Flamencología y Estudios Folklóricos Andaluces, attached to the University of Cadiz.The Cante award went to José de La Tomasa and the Guitar award was granted to Antonio Carrión. The Jury, chaired by Juan de la Plata, director of the institution, created a special award of honor to celebrate the career of veteran singer Agujetas. Manueal Agujetas was born 1939, making him about 73, and worked as a boy in the forge of his father, Agujetas el Viejo, also a famous flamenco singer under the influence of Manuel Torres (1878 - 1933).
