Suma Flamenca 2011
The Suma Flamenca Festival takes place every year in Madrid and four other towns in the greater Madrid province. In 2011 the 6th Suma Flamenca will take place from the 9th of June to the 2nd of July, devoted to the memory of Enrique Morente. In honour of her father, who passed away in December 2010, Estrella Morente will open the festival with “Morente en Concierto”.For six years the festival has been giving glory to the flamenco art of Spanish Gypsies and this year Suma will extend their celebration to include the gypsy music of Hungary, Romania, France and Israel. On the dance front, Rocío Molina will be presenting her new show "Danzaora" and two outstanding flamenco dancers, Belén Maya and Olga Pericet, will combine forces in "Bailes alegres para personas tristes." Other featured dancers include; Alfonso Losa, Anabel Moreno, Adrián Sánchez, Ana Morales, David Coria, Domingo Ortega, Fran Espinosa, Francisco Hidalgo, Juan Ogalla, Joaquín Mulero, José Jurado, Lucia Guarnido, Noe Barroso, Patricia Ibáñez and Raquel Villegas.Cantaora Lola Montoya will debut with Metáfora, as will a number of other young flamenco performers from Madrid. Diego 'El Cigala' will appear with a show called 3 Flamencos and Romanian gypsy band Fanfare Chavale will present "Los virtuosos vientos de Rumanía." Tomatito is on the bill and along with Arcángel, Angel Rojas, Rafaela Carrasco and Carmen Linares, they should need no introductions. All in all Suma Flamenca promises to be an excellent festival with a list of performers too long to cover here, but one more name should be very familiar to our readers... Diego Guerrero - who has performed many times in Australia with partner Nasrine who hails from Melbourne - will team up with Israeli singer-songwriter Idan Raichel in a unique show 'Sefarad.' Idan Raichel is also no stranger to our shores with triple platinum album sales and sold out concerts Australia-wide.QUESTION: If you see just one show from this festival who would you see?(leave us a comment below)I'll leave you with a recent video from Belén Maya and Olga Pericet, a short clip from the show to be featured in Suma Flamenca 2011.
