Bandaluzia is an acclaimed modern flamenco ensemble led by ARIA award-nominated guitarist Damian Wright. They are known for their powerful performances, unique sound and explosive displays of dazzling musicianship.
Mixing elements of other genres into their performances, Bandaluzia draw on the rich harmonies of jazz, the exotic melodies of the Orient or the infectious rhythms of South America to create an experience that ignites the senses.
Flamenco wouldn’t be complete without dance! This performance will also feature flamenco dancers Jessica Statham who was named Australia Magazine’s “Most Outstanding Dancer of 2013” and co-winner of “Best Dance Show” at The Adelaide Fringe 2014, and Rosalie Cocchiaro who has an extensive career performing in many of Madrid’s premier tablaos (flamenco venues).
Joining them on guitars & mandolin is Freedman fellowship-winner and National Jazz Awards-finalist Ben Hauptmann (Katie Noonan, Gurrumul, Lior) & brilliant percussionist James Hauptmann (James Morrison, Vince Jones, Bluejuice).
Bandaluzia was recently invited to perform at The Adelaide International Guitar Festival and was awarded “The Pick Of the Sydney Fringe” at The Sydney Fringe Festival. In 2014 Bandaluzia performed to a sold-out Sydney Opera House Concert Hall as an invited artist to TEDX Sydney.
